After approval: the Golden Visa medical test and Emirates ID explained

Approval is not the last step. The medical test and Emirates ID biometrics complete your Golden Visa — here is how they work.

Quick answer

Once your Golden Visa is approved, you complete a medical fitness test at an authorised centre and give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for your Emirates ID. If you are outside the UAE, you enter on the entry permit first. After the medical result is cleared, the residence is issued and the Emirates ID card is printed and delivered.

Most applicants focus on eligibility and forget that a few in-person steps follow approval. They are routine, but they need you physically in the UAE.

The order of steps

  • Approval of the Golden Visa application
  • Entry permit (if you are applying from outside the UAE)
  • Medical fitness test at an approved centre
  • Biometrics for the Emirates ID
  • Residence issued and Emirates ID card delivered

The medical fitness test

The test usually includes a blood test and a chest X-ray. Children below a certain age are generally exempt. Results go directly to the immigration system — you do not need to carry them anywhere.

Bring your passport and the application reference. Some centres offer fast-track appointments for a higher fee.

Emirates ID biometrics

Fingerprints and a photo are taken at an ICP or approved service centre. Children may be exempt from fingerprints. The card is printed after the residence is issued and can be delivered by courier.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be in the UAE for the medical test?

Yes. The medical test and biometrics have to be done in person in the UAE.

Is the Emirates ID valid for the full 10 years?

The Emirates ID follows the residence validity, so it is issued to match your Golden Visa.
