A status check confirms whether a residence or visit file is active, cancelled or expired, the exact expiry date and — on most portals — whether fines are due.
It also shows problems that are easy to miss: a cancellation done by an employer, an absconding report, or a block linked to unpaid fines.
This is the easiest route: no file number and no UAE PASS login. Enter the passport number, nationality and date of birth exactly as they appear on the visa.
If the passport was renewed after the visa was issued, search with the old passport number — the file stays linked to it until the visa is transferred to the new passport.
After a residence visa expires or is cancelled, most people have a grace period to renew, change status or leave without fines. The length depends on the visa type.

Grace periods can change. Always confirm your last day on the official portal, or with us, before you plan travel.
Once the grace period ends, a fixed fine is charged for every day of overstay. Fines must be cleared before you can renew, change status or exit, and large unpaid fines can lead to a travel block.
The quickest fix: confirm the exact amount first, then settle it in the same visit as the renewal or the exit.
GDRFA Dubai lets you search with passport number, nationality and date of birth — no file number needed. If the search fails, try the ICP portal as well: some files show there first.
Visas issued in Dubai are held by GDRFA Dubai. Visas issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain are held by ICP. The issuing emirate is printed on the visa page.

Yes. Both GDRFA Dubai and ICP let you search by passport number together with your nationality and date of birth. No file number and no UAE PASS login are needed.
Only in where you look. Visas issued in Dubai are checked on GDRFA Dubai; visas issued in the other six emirates are checked on ICP. The result shows the same things: status, expiry date and fines.
You need the passport number plus nationality and date of birth. With those three details the GDRFA search works without a file number.
The status result on GDRFA or ICP shows fines on most files. If it does not, send us your passport details and we confirm the exact amount before you travel.
File validity is the date until which your residence or visit file is active. After it, the grace period starts — and once that ends, daily fines begin.
The government portals show the official record and are reliable. Problems come from typing errors, a renewed passport or searching the wrong authority — which is why we check both.
Usually 30 days for most residence visas, up to 90 days for property owners and up to 180 days for Golden and Green Visa holders. Visit visas usually have none.
The residence visa was ended, usually by the employer or sponsor. Your grace period starts on the cancellation date, so change status or leave before it ends.
An employer has reported that you left work without notice. It blocks new visas until it is resolved — speak to us or to MOHRE as soon as possible.
Fines keep growing every day and must be paid before you can renew, change status or leave. Large unpaid fines can lead to a travel block.
Yes. Visit and tourist visas, including visas on arrival, show on the same portals with passport number, nationality and date of birth.
