Most of a Golden Visa file can move while you are abroad. Two stages cannot. Here is how to plan your trips around them.

You can usually be abroad while your documents are being verified and the application is reviewed. You must be in the UAE for the medical fitness test (if you are 18 or older) and Emirates ID biometrics, and for the visa to be issued if you are changing status inside the country. Investors outside the UAE normally enter on an entry permit issued for the application and complete the remaining steps on arrival.
A Golden Visa file has several stages. Knowing which ones need you physically in the UAE lets you keep business trips and family holidays on track.
Stages you can complete from abroad
- Collecting and attesting documents
- Property verification by the land department (property route)
- Nomination or approval by the relevant authority (other routes)
- Submitting the application and receiving pre-approval
Stages that need you in the UAE
- Medical fitness test (18 and over)
- Emirates ID biometrics for first-time applicants
- Status change, if you are inside the UAE on another visa
If you are already in the UAE on another visa
If you hold a visit visa or another residence visa, the Golden Visa can usually be issued as a change of status. Leaving the country mid-process can mean the file has to move to an entry-permit route instead, which adds time. Tell your consultant before you book a trip.
Do not cancel your existing residence visa yourself before the Golden Visa is ready — the cancellation is timed with the new visa.
Investors applying from abroad
Applicants outside the UAE normally receive an entry permit linked to the application. You enter on it, complete the medical and biometrics, and the Golden Visa is issued. Plan a stay of several working days to cover these appointments.
